RebuildNH Releases Endorsements, Candidate Scorecard Tools for Upcoming Elections

EAST DERRY, N.H.—RebuildNH is excited to release two powerful tools that will help New Hampshire voters elect a slate of candidates for the upcoming Legislative session who will continue to effectively fight for the people’s freedom.

  • 2022 Endorsements: This first tool allows voters to search by their town to find the candidates RebuildNH has endorsed who they can vote for. There are currently 146 total endorsements across the state for various state-level offices for the upcoming primary election on Tuesday, Sept. 13. This is an update from the 139 candidates endorsed last week. We believe these candidates, once elected, will not only vote the right way, but will also work to advance the goals we’ve outlined in our organization’s purpose statement (see below).
  • 2022 Candidate Scorecard: This second tool provides a letter grade for all candidates based on three factors: their survey score on our RebuildNH candidate survey; their voting record during the 2020-2021 Legislative session as it compared with the issues we publicly supported or opposed, if applicable; and their overall reputation for supporting our issues based on their public comments and/or actions. While this wider list of all candidates is available so voters can check how all of the candidates scored in their districts, we have not necessarily endorsed everyone who has scored well on this list.

It is important to note that of the two tools RebuildNH is releasing today, our 2022 Endorsements tool is the one voters ought to use at the ballot box. In fact, voters may choose to bullet vote endorsed candidates to increase these candidates’ chances of winning, particularly in the state representative and state senate races.

“We believe that when government stands back so people can make their own decisions about what risks they take and enjoy or suffer the consequences of those decisions, the resultant liberty affords the best results for society,” said Andrew J. Manuse, chairman of RebuildNH. “We believe the candidates we’ve endorsed will help advance freedom in New Hampshire and help rebuild a prosperous environment that will make New Hampshire a shining example for the rest of the country and the rest of the world.”

RebuildNH endorsed candidates made it through a rigorous screening process. If incumbents, they voted within a reasonable margin of perfection on all of our bills of interest, and we personally know them to have voted this way due to their own deeply held principles. We endorsed new candidates who scored within a reasonable margin of perfection on our candidate survey and we vetted them through word of mouth or personal knowledge of their values. Where there were contests among good candidates, we sometimes chose the candidates whom we believe would do a better job. Where there were contests among mediocre candidates or candidates we can’t fully back, for one reason or another, we did not endorse.

It is also important to note that we did not endorse a candidate for governor, because there are multiple candidates running who scored well on our survey who could do the job. At the same time, we awarded Gov. Chris Sununu as well as candidate Tom Sherman a well-deserved “F” grade on our 2022 Candidate Scorecard. We believe that Gov. Sununu needs to be replaced as governor as soon as possible, but we do not believe that Tom Sherman should replace him. There are several alternative candidates to choose from to replace the governor who are on the ballot and we hope that our scorecard may help voters decide which one to vote for.

RebuildNH is hopeful that the people of New Hampshire recognize our leadership in pointing out the errors of the COVID-19 response from beginning to end, and suggesting a better way forward that trusts individuals to decide what is best for themselves. We are excited to highlight the five efforts we passed in 2021 and the 10 bills we passed in 2022 as part of our strong track-record fighting for freedom. Because of this, we are hopeful that voters will use our 2022 Endorsements tool and 2022 Candidate Scorecard tool to select our legislative team for the next two years to help us further advance our goals.
