PR: ReopenNH Announces Slate of Endorsed Candidates

Elected ReopenNH Candidates Will Help Restore the Rule of Law and Liberty to Overcome Crisis

EAST DERRY, N.H.—Today ReopenNH is releasing its first list of candidate endorsements, and we are hopeful that these men and women, once elected, will help correct the abuses of authority that we have all experienced since March by amending and repealing certain state laws and ending the “Emergency Order” reign of Gov. Chris Sununu.

Candidate endorsements released today for the Executive Council, the State Senate, and the State House of Representatives can be found at https://reopennh.com/2020-endorsed-candidates/. On Monday, ReopenNH endorsed Karen Testerman for governor, because we know she too will help restore the rule of law in New Hampshire and correct the errors of her predecessor.

“Our endorsements were reserved for men and women who we believe will help to reopen New Hampshire according to the principles outlined in the United States and New Hampshire constitutions; who will work to remove the onerous regulations, licensing authority, and emergency orders that are holding our state back,” said Andrew J. Manuse, chairman of ReopenNH. “Gov. Sununu was right to declare a State of Emergency when Covid-19 was an unknown threat and it seemed extremely dangerous, but after 21 days had passed, it was clear that it wasn’t going to be as bad as we feared. Rather than do the right thing and end his State of Emergency, he seemed to grasp onto his arbitrary power, and to this day he has not let go. Now, he must go, and we must also replace the do-nothing Legislature that allowed him to get away with his run on power.”

“The governor’s series of emergency orders that dictated how we should live in every area of our lives was a direct abuse of authority that should have never happened,” Manuse added. “We know that changes in state law are needed to remove any governor’s ability to do this in the future, and it is also important to minimize the authority of the Department of Health and Human Services, which repeatedly gave conflicting and arbitrary guidance that any logical person would reject. Finally, it is imperative to clarify public health law to prevent local officials from acting as if we are a home rule state, when we most certainly are not. Only a good Legislature can do this work—a good governor would certainly make it easier—and we think our slate of candidates is the right team to do the job.”

“We believe our slate of candidates will abide by the rule of law while also crafting policies that provide guidance to the public on matters of public health that they can choose to act on according to their own free will,” Manuse said. “It is imperative that we move past this episode, move past our fear, and move on to the stage where we can rebuild our lives, rebuild our businesses, and rebuild our state. There is nothing else standing in the way of this other than the fear mongering politicians and bureaucrats that are in power today, and they need to go.”
