Petition TO RESTORE RELIGIOUS FREEDOM
To Gov. Christopher Sununu and the N.H. Legislature
We the undersigned, understand that SARS-Cov-2 (Covid-19) is a highly contagious and potentially dangerous virus;
We understand that, because of this, N.H. Gov. Christopher Sununu declared a state of emergency, which is ongoing, and issued an order restricting religious organizations from assembling for the purpose of worship;
We believe that the right of religious assembly is of equal or greater importance to the rights associated with retail establishments, which the governor has agreed to begin reopening, and the risk for spread of disease from religious assemblies is no greater than the risk posed by opening retail businesses, because religious institutions can implement similar precautions;
We believe we have a God-given obligation to provide and protect those around us, and in so doing, we are commanded to “fear not,” but rather to “trust in God,” “not neglecting to meet together” for worship;
We understand that the People of New Hampshire have a natural and inalienable right to worship, which is protected by the U.S. and N.H. Constitutions;
We believe, as such, that “no [person] should be restrained, in his person, liberty, or estate, from worshipping God in the manner and season most agreeable to the dictates of his own conscience;”
Now therefore, we the undersigned residents of New Hampshire petition Gov. Chris Sununu to uphold the Constitution and allow religious organizations to gather effective immediately.
