Legislative Update Week of April 21st, 2025

NOTE THIS IS THE CORRECT BILL DESCRIPTION: This bill requires that parents have the right to access not only their child’s medical records (all parents currently have that right under federal law until 18 years old), but also have access to their electronic medical records. Many offices throughout the state cut off parental access to medical access at 12 years old. This bill would prohibit this practice.

I was shocked to learn that currently, if a minor child has a public library card, their parents do not have the right to access what books and audiovisual materials they check out. Wild. This bill requires that parents have access to those records.
